Two new '15 Saharas - swapping wheels

Hi, I posted a similar thread in the general forum, but thinking this Tech form might be better. Here goes:

My bud and I both bought new 2015 2-dr stock Saharas. But different yet similar packages. Hate my rims/wheels, he hates his. So we want to swap them out. Given the fact I know zero about rims/tires:

His: 17 x 7.5" rims, tires P245/75R17. Recommended tire pressure 35.

Mine: 18 x 7.5" rims, tires P255/70R18. Recommended tire pressure 35.

1. Is it going to cause some technical problems unknown to me by swapping?

2. Does the size change of this nature affect the calibration of the speedometer and or the odometer that was set at the factory on each vehicle?

3. If the answer to (2) is yes, is a dealer able to recalibrate them?

4. Any other issues I need to know about by changing them out?

Thanks much, appreciate it.....

No. They will fit and present no issues, your TPMS's will recognize the new sensor w/i short amount of time. Effective O.D. is close as well.
The 17" rims will enjoy more tire choices down the road.
Enjoy.

Answer to #2 is yes. At 80 you will be 1.5mph off which doesnt sound like a big deal to me. To calibrate you can buy a flashcal.

The 18 is 1/2" taller. 31.47 to 32.06" mathematically. Not a big enough difference that it will affect anything.

I think both tire sizes are going to be real close to 32" diameter.....Probably won't be enough difference to be noticeable. IMO

I'm a bit perplexed.

Saharas come with 18" wheels standard, including 255 series tires. Your Bud's Sahara may have had the standard 18" wheels/tires traded/transferred at some point on a different Jeep, by the dealership...

Cheers/B

I'm lost as well. Two "regular" Sahara's would have the same 18" rims and 255/70-18 tires.

The Sport S's and Rubi's come with 255/75/17's. So a 245/75/17 is something different as well.

As far as the Sahara rims go....they look a lot better in black.

Posting in either section is fine. There's no problem doing the swap. The only thing that you might see is that both your TPMS systems could take awhile to synch. They will automatically. One might synch faster than the other.

Get on the turnpike and check your odometer after driving by ten mile markers. Your odometer should show 10 miles on the head. If not calculate your difference to know how much you are off.

Wait, what?

If both are really 2015 Sahara trim level JK, then should have both been equipped with "18-Inch sparkle silver painted wheels"
Why does your friend have 17" wheels? I hope that they weren't swapped out by the dealer prior to sale. I would also make sure that he has all of the other goodies offered by the package upgrade too. It would be a pity if somehow the only upgrade was the decal.......

Sahara-X?

I went to the linked website and I couldn't build a Wrangler Sahara-X or Wrangler Unlimited Sahara-X.

What am I doing wrong? The X package looks to be similar to the Willys Wheeler or Polar packages. Essentially an up-optioned Sport-S package.

I also went through the regular build and price for a Sahara and didn't see the X package offered. Are you sure it's a "Sahara-X" package? Maybe it's a dealer-only special option package. I've seen those before.

I hate our work computers. Apparently they hate this site and I keep getting booted out when I log in!

Just keep in mind the 18s will be a little better (in general) on the street due to shorter sidewalls.

OK, so it was a special edition Sahara.

I think the Moab (another Sahara based special edition) had the exact same tires....but there were on the all black +2013 Rubi rims (same as the Willys).

The p0st by ksipes is correct. The Wranger "X" package is rare. With it comes solid black rims (which I love), and not the standard Sahara wheels/tires. The X package comes with 17" wheels.

I don't know if you can still order an X package Wrangler. The inside has some pure white accent trim stuff. The hood has decals on each side that look like mountains. And of course, the black wheels. The Sahara X is only made in 4 colors.

Thanks all for the help! Bottom line sounds like I have nothing to worry about by swapping out the wheels....
