Winch for Hard Rock

Need some advice from the experts.....

What plate do I need to get to mount a winch in the Hard Rock bumper and what decently-priced winch do you guys recommend?

I am not looking to spend over a grand on a winch, so the Warns are out. I was looking at the likes of Engo, Smittybilt, etc.... Is something around 9000 lbs that's not going to fry or decapitate me the first time I use it doable for around $500-$600? Including plate? Obviously, I am also not interested in going as bottom-end as Harbor Freight...

Thanks!

The winch plate and other needed pieces for the 10A bumper are a little pricey alone. That will really eat into your total budget. Below is what you will need, but definitely search around to see if you can get a lower cost:

Maximus-3 Rubicon X/10A Winch Mount Package

I love the bumper, but the huge cost for a winch plate and hoop is what turned me off on it. They look really nice when completed though. Good luck.

I went with the Maximus-3 plate and a Smitybuilty XRC8 with synthetic line. I have used the winch 3 or 4 times already and have not had any issues. Bought the winch from 4 wheels parts with the 3 year extended warranty, no matter what or how it breaks they replace it.

I went with Maximus-3 also. Got the Warn Zeon 10S Winch. Pulled me through about 30' of mud, then out of it. Sank to the axles could't get traction to drive out even with both lockers engaged until that Zeon pulled me 30' to the other side of the muddy area.

Thanks everyone..... I suppose the Maximus mount is the only one available? Seems a bit pricey for just a piece of steel with a couple of folds and some holes..... You would think some enterprising Chinaman would have these on eBay for $50 by now.... LOL..

I will likely go with one of the Smittybilts -- probably the X20-10K -- at $400, I will be close enough to my $600 budget with the mount added and I have a local 4WheelParts store in case anything goes wrong.

A sidenote... this is the only thing my salesman lied to me about....To be fair, it could be just ignorance on his part too.... He told me this bumper was ready to accept a winch as-is..... He said something along the lines of "Drop in just about any winch, bolt it down, wire it, and you're good to go....." Now I find out I need to spend a couple hundred bucks on a mount..... Oh well!

x4 on the Maximus setup. Make sure you understand that if you are to get a center spool winch that you'll need to cut the bumper. The HR bumper is designed for the off center winch. It's not hard but it's an extra step.

Thanks.... if I read the description on the Smittybilts X20-10K correctly, you can mount the solenoid either centered or off-center..... Either way, I will be buying both pieces from 4WheelParts so I will make sure to ask these questions and make sure it all fits....

I am not interested in cutting on a brand-new bumper if it can be avoided. Looks wise, centered or off-center makes no difference to me, so whichever way avoids the torch, that's my choice... LOL...

I did the Maximus-3 setup for centered Zeon10-S. Cutting the bumper was the easy part. Set it on two saw horses and used a 1-3/4 hole saw for the end fillet and a reciprocating saw for the cutout. Bolting everything down in the limited space inside the bumper was the challenge. I like how compact it turns out after the pain.

Cool...

How do you like it and did you have to hack up your bumper to get it in?

Sorry for what might be obvious questions, but would you mind calling out your setup shown here (Center vs. Off-center plate, fairlead, etc.)?

Sign up at Zoro.com, wait for a 20-30% off coupon and buy a Warn instead of the Shittybuilt.
Get the Maximus 3 with centering thingy and be done with it.

If you need a winch, you want one that will work every time, not a maybe it'll work this time winch.
Where I go it could mean life of death, I'll only use Warn.

Check out the ZEON line up.
The overall job might be $200-$300 more but you'll never wonder if your winch will work or not.
Besides, the Zeon in the 10A bumper is down right Sexy!!!

[QUOTE="macaw1us;20191857"]Sign up at Zoro.com, wait for a 20-30% off coupon and buy a Warn instead of the Shittybuilt.

How often does ZORO send out that kind of deal?
