Wrangler JK Rubicon - Buzzing/Vibrating noise!

Posting for a friend - he has a JK Rubicon and has noticed when his engine is a bit strained - going up a hill, etc., there is a buzzing or vibrating noise coming from under his console.

We pulled the console off and can't really pinpoint the noise. There is a cable that attaches to the shifter and it almost sounds like it could be a vibration in that cable, but when it happens and he push the cable taut, it doesn't change the noise. It almost sounds like it's under and forward of the console.

Has anybody had a similar issue that sounds familiar that they explored or found to be a problem?

I understand this could be just about anything but I was hoping maybe this was maybe a known issue that people have solved for.

Thanks in advance!

I could hear a similar noise today on my 16 Rubicon this morning for the first time. Only it happened to me as I started the engine and sat in my Jeep while I looked up directions. I heard a loud vibrating noise what seemed to be dead-center of hood. It went away after a few seconds so I drove off.

Heard it again as I got to a red light may be 100 yards from my place. Lasted a few seconds and went away. I jumped on the freeway the rest of the way and no longer heard it. I will try tomorrow and see if it does it and if I can locate where under the hood exactly.

Hi malangon!
Thanks for reaching out in favor of your friend. We highly recommend that he get this looked at by his dealer- as you are right, this could be a number of things! It is best to have this concern properly diagnosed.

Probably a heat shield under the hood.

Had super busy day today, so only got to take a couple of trips today in the Jeep. No loud vibration on start up. Even waited an extra few moments after starting up. Check again tomorrow.

Did notice the serpentine belt has been a little louder than usual. But that definitely was not the noise I heard yesterday.

I have more of a ringing noise seemingly coming from that same area. It only does it on the highway after 65 mph. If I figure out what mine is I’ll share.
