05 LJ 6 speed Rattling/Ticking noise coming from transmission

I've got a noise that's gotten worse and worse over time. It used to be a clunking noise and continued even after I replaced the clutch and throw out bearing and you can hear something clank when you engage the clutch but it's always done that. The noise now is a ticking that I originally thought was a bad valve but it has gotten louder and faster in the last 24 hours so I climbed up under it with a set of ears and sure enough it's coming from the transmission. It's a luk clutch and metal throw out bearing. Any ideas what it could be if it's not the throw out bearing?

Are you sure it's coming from the transmission? U joints can make a very similar noise and can clunk too. I made the mistake of looking at my transmission as the problem for quite a while before I found a cardan joint in the drive shaft that was the problem.

Just had a similar issue on my wife's 06 lj. I swore it was coming from the transfer case. Easy to pull the front drive shaft and see if it's a joint or the centering yoke in the double Cardon joint. 4x 8mm bolts on easy side of the shaft. Turned out one of the caps was totally toast inside. I am slowly putting in new joints while she drives without the front shaft. No noise since.

Thanks for the suggestions, transmission is out. It started making a ticking noise after I posted this, and it would stop when I pressed the clutch in. I put on some ears and checked it and it sounded like it was coming from the front of the bell housing. The throw out bearing looks and spins fine, so now we're trying to figure out the next thing to check. I am going to replace the u-joints.
