05 Wrangler Play in ZF steering box

Hi all,

Since I bought my jeep, I've had a lot of play in my steering wheel caused by my steering gearbox. I'm looking for direct bolt on replacements but the only ones like the PSC and AGR boxes are pretty pricey. Does anyone know of a vendor that sells these style boxes or does anyone have any better ideas on how to replace the steering gear without breaking the bank. Thank you for looking at my post.

are you sure its the steering box? Tie rods and other steering components can also cause the play. I don't have experience with jeeps, but I chased play in my steering on a GMC 2500 for 3 years, and spent well over $2000, it never went away. not trying to throw water on your fire, but I would check out everything else first. the only thing I didn't change was the ball joints, my front end shop told me they were ok. If you have to change the box, get the AGR. as far as I know, they are the only manufacturer of new boxes. everyone else rebuilds them, rebuilds are crap. maybe this will help, hope you find it.

The intermediate shaft can also cause play. I'm chasing the last little bit of steering feel issues I have. It's either in the box, or the intermediate shaft, I won't dig into it further for a couple months I'm sure.

With that said, Redhead steering gears are good. Haven't used one in a Jeep yet, but I've not had any issues with their boxes, ever.
