1997 TJ Starting Issue

Hello! I am a new member of the Wrangler family. Just bought a 97 TJ for my son. The vehicle runs fairly well; however, it has a starting problem. When starting the engine cold, it will turn over, but not start. If you back off and then turn the key again, it generally starts right up. Any suggestions as to what might be the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Same thing here same year also. It was the fuel pressure regulator that sits on the top of the fuel pump. It allowed fuel in the fuel rail trickle slowly back into the tank. It is an easy fix, run the fuel down as low as you can, remove a few (7) bolts, plus free up the fill tube, and disconnect fuel lines. A small clip holds the FPR onto the top of pump. HOPE THIS HELPS Will semd a PM with more info.
