2000 TJ Electrical Problem: Headlight & Neutral Indicator

Our 2000 TJ (4.0, Automatic) has started having problems with the Check Engine light coming on. When I read the codes it’s saying the neutral indicator switch is having issues so we had our 4wd shop in Reno replace the switch. But we still get intermittent issues with it and the check engine light still comes on. The shop says they need to check the wiring harness but we haven’t had time to leave it with them as it’s the wife’s daily driver vehicle. About a week ago she was driving home and the head lights went out. She was able to make it home by holding the headlight high beam switch on intermittent high beam (holding the lever back all the time). That gave her lights, but if she put the lever in standard light or high beam light position nothing worked. Only holding the lever back gave her lights. I assumed the switch had failed so I replaced it today but that didn’t solve the problem, if you pull the headlight switch (on the dash) into the on position you get running lights, but no headlights. The only way to get the headlights to work is to hold the intermittent high beam lever back all the time. I’ve been looking thru the wiring diagrams in several manuals and it looks like the neutral switch problem and the headlight issues may be related, but as I don’t know how to read the wiring schematics that well I’m not sure. Has anyone had a similar problem or know if there might be a common wiring harness issue that could cause both of these issues to happen? Right now the wife can’t use the Jeep as she works until 10pm each night and can’t continue to drive home holding back the intermittent high beam switch all the time (so I’ve lost my truck to her until this dang Jeep issue gets fixed). Any ideas would be appreciated...

So after a few more hours looking at the wiring diagrams I’ve found that the two issues are probably not related. I also found that the intermittent high beam works because it completely bypasses the dash headlight switch and provides power to the headlights directly from the battery when you pull back in the lever. This indicates I’m not getting reliable power from the dash knob/switch so that’s what I’m checking now... Still no idea about the park/neutral switch but I’ll work on that once I get headlights again...
