2001 TJ with low fuel pessure

I have been working bugs out of my TJ since I have had it. It runs fine, but when shifting from 4th to 5th, I lose power around 2100-2300 RPM. I borrowed a fuel pressure gauge and found my pressure is low. 15 psi when I turn on the key, and 33 psi when I start it. It should be around 50. Also when I loosen the gas cap there isn't any pressure. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Most likely a clogged fuel filter and an old fuel pump. You can tackle both at the same time.

Replace the fuel pump, I think you already knew what the answer was. Stay with a Bosch or OEM pump.

What about the pressure regulator? Is there any way to tell if it's bad or just replace it along with the pump? I wasn't sure if it was the pump because it's been like this for the last 8 months or so.

It's part of the pump & you have to drop the tank to get to the regulator anyways so you might as well put a new pump in it. Its probably just been slowly dieing.

Went on rockauto.com today and got a pretty good price on a Bosch pump/ sending unit. I can't wait for it to get here so I can swap it out and hopefully be closer to no CEL.

Be careful when disconnecting the fuel lines to drop your tank. The fuel clips are plastic and will be very brittle. I broke half of mine being very gentle with them. Ended up getting all new clips from the dealer.

I'll definately remember to do that. It would be just my luck to break one...lol. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well the fuel pump assembly showed up yesterday. When I dropped the tank I was surprised that it ran as well as it did. The retainer ring that holds the pump in wasn't even tight. After I got it swapped out...50 pounds pressure, and it runs much better! Thanks everyone for the help!

How many miles were on your jeep before the pump failed/weekened?

that I'm not sure about. I bought it last August with 56,000 miles and it has been running the same up until the new pump. On other vehicles they always just unexpectedly died on me, but this one just wouldn't give up the ghost i guess....lol.

Don't try and anticipate when your pump will go out, it won't do you any good. You could check the PSI every so often but normally they just die, kinda like a battery.
