My 1997 TJ has developed a shifting issue going into 2nd gear shifting up or down. It feels as though it's in second gear but when I release the clutch it's in neutral. The shift lever says 2nd but the transmission says neutral. Going back to neutral an back to 2nd usually works on the first try. Second gear is the only one doing this. I've got this vague feeling it has something to do with the shifter gate but don't really know. Any ideas appreciated.
