300 ford 6 cyl swap.

HAS ANY ONE DONE THIS IN A WRANGLER, OR KNOW ANY ONE WHO HAS . I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT SWAP , CAUSE THAT IS ONE POWERFULL AND RELIABLE MTR. IS IT TO LONG ?JUST WONDERING.

i love the 300 6-cyl ford motor as much as the next guy...my grandfather's old cargo van had one...awesome motor.

BUT...it wouldn't make any sense for a swap IMHO...it doesn't make that much more power, and if you're talking the carb version, thats a step backwards.

the 4.0L is plenty reliable...if you want more cubes then stroke it...you can stroke it to 4.9L (300 cu-in)...

Why would you waist the time or money into a swap that would not give you any more power then a factory Inline six does. The list of stuff you would need to do this swap is long and would cost more then a magnum v8 swap . Which makes more power and torque then a 300 does.

I've had them both in various vehicles. I would stick with the 4.0.
Just as reliable, with greater longevity.
I think the Ford 300 would be too long, anyway.
Just my .02.

YOU GUYS ARE PROBABLY RIGHT, I WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT IT AND I THOUGHT THAT IT MIGHT BE TOO LONG FOR THE WRANGLER ANYWAY. BUT I DONT AGREE WITH 4.0 HAS BETTER LONGEVITY THAN THE 4.9 . IVE HAD THEM BOTH AND IT IS HARD TO BEAT A 4.9s DURABILITY. BUT THANKS FOR THE INPUT..

1 and a half inches that's how much longer a 4.9/300 inline six is and not much more power. the 300 inline six was put in one ton trucks because they made huge amounts of torque. now put a 4.0 in a in a one ton it's not going to budge. why put a v8 in a jeep when u can put a 300 inline six in and save weight and have more torque is a better question. The 300 inline six has been used in racing applications and pulling as well as ups trucks to this day for it's reliability and torque.

I would betcha a box of donuts the 300 weighs more than a SBF....I say this because a 4.0 is just a bit heavier than my aluminum headed windsor

About 45# heavier would be my guess. Since the 4.0 ways the same as a 351w with e7's and 90# more then a 302.

You do realize you are commenting on a thread that died a year ago don't you! But do you also realize a 300 six only makes about 150hp and 260# ft tq. The 5.0 ho is 90# lighter, 225hp and 300# ft tq. My 5.9 is about the same weight as a 300 six and makes 235hp and 335# ft tq.

dont think, just do it

I bought a CJ7 that someone had done the swap with, Novak makes adaptors and it also has a np435 4 spd in it, wrapped up with 4.35 gears it will climb up a wall before it bogs out,

Complicated? alittle.

different? hell yes.

worth it? we'll see when im finished adding my new 470 truck avenger carb
