4.0 compatability question

Just curious if you could take an 02 4.0 and drop it into a 99. Along with the ecm and ignition.

Would it work or is there more involved than that?

My understanding is the 2000 and newer heads have a different port design for the intake and exhaust so probably would need to use the intake and split cast exhaust manifolds from the 02. Would required also using a front pipe off of newer TJ. Would recommend one off of a 2000 because 2000 did not have the precats (at least on the 49 state models). Not sure if the ECM is transmission specific on the earlier years or not so that might have an impact also if one is a manual and the other is an auto. Somebody on here will know.

Long block has head issues as prior poster

Short block no issue

Complete engine different sensors so different manifolds and coil packs vs distributor
