42rle transmission should I refresh it?

I'm currently doing a frame on my 2004 TJ. It has 120k miles and the 42rle transmission. I can't help but think while I am staring at this transmission that maybe I should refresh it. It doesn't have any problems now, but it seems every one reports issues at 120k -140k miles.

Should I do anything to the transmission while it is right in front of me and before I cover it back up with the tub?

change the filter with a mopar one and add a passive cooler in front of the radiator, then do a flush using the trans pump to pump the old fluid out while adding new fluid

Also couldn't hurt to install a remote transmission filter. They filter a lot better, and make maintenance easier.

Great suggestions. Thanks! Adding a remote cooler for sure!

While you are at it there is a shift kit that you can add for $27 that will help your trans live longer and perform better.

How will a shift kit make it last longer?

the shift kit itself might be $27, but the installation is north of $400.

If you want to install yourself, you better have knowledge of valve bodies and a mill or very stable drill press with the necessary reamers to size the holes....I have had the TransGo shift kit on my bench for a couple years now....
