6 speed shifter boot replacement

I was wanting to replace my shifter boot on my 2005 LJ 6 speed. I took the old worn boot off months ago and now i can't figure out how to put the new one on? All I have is the new boot itself and the piece of trim bezel that clips into the floor console. Am I missing any pieces? Is there a retainer piece that go on under the trim bezel piece? And how does the boot stay up on the metals shifter shaft?

Pics and diagrams or help needed please

Thanks WatlooBoy, but my 2005 is different than that. I have a vinyl/leather boot that needs to be attached to a thin metal retainer piece (that I threw out with my boot that was worn) and then a trim bezel piece snaps in over top to hold the retainer and boot in place.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A BOOT WITH THE RETAINER CLIP OR THE RETAINER CLIP ITSELF? I have the trim bezel that clips in over top.

I see. You're looking for the OUTER pleather boot. OE no longer available, and after-market boots won't include the metal base. Since you tossed it, you may need to fabricate a tin one and glue to the after-market boot. I've replaced my console with a Tuffy and transferred the boot base to a leather Redline boot and, as I recall, the flimsy factory bezel would not serve well as a boot frame.

I also need that pleather shift boot. Where did you find one? Hopefully my trim parts are still good. Thanks.

Don’t ever throw parts away until the job is done 😫

Yes! - don't throw away anything until the job is done!

I have that same c-clip. What purpose does it serve?

The leather boot i bought was from e-Bay. It's very nice, but seems to be taking some engineering to get it too work for me!

Try Davey's Jeeps or SgtJeep

I never throw anything away, might need those old rusty coil springs or other random part some day.

it just keeps the boot from sliding down.
