95 YJ Auto into 99TJ AX15?
I'm looking at swapping my AX15 for a 3 speed automatic in my 4.0 '99 TJ. This is a weekend play toy/wheeling rig that I only drive locally and trailer it for anything over ~ 50 miles away, so I don't really need a 4 speed AW4. Also, I have WAY too much time and money into the axle/suspension mods to just sell this one and buy another. Jeep is currently running built Teraflex 44's and 37" tires with Superior shafts, 5.13's and ARB's on a 3-link/single triangulated 4-link suspension.
I've read the various write-ups on the 32RH swap, but finding one of those has proven difficult. I understand that some YJ transmissions would work as well, but it's not exactly clear which ones would work?
It sounds like that a 6 cylinder auto from a YJ would bolt up to my 4.0TJ with a potential need for an extension shaft, but I'm not clear on a couple issues. One, I've heard that you need the bell housing with the CPS attached, but I'm not sure what year transmissions have this. I've also heard that if you don't have that you can rig some kind of set-up on the front of the crank instead.
I do have a line on an automatic from a 95 YJ 6 cylinder, but I would hate to get that one and find out it wouldn't work. I did search, but didn't find exactly the info I was looking for; i.e. - will a 95 YJ tranny work in my 99 and what else would I have to change w/ respect to wiring/computers/CPS, etc, outside of the obvious things like shifter mechanisms, TV cables etc??
