Aftermarket Stereo Lights Up, But No Sound

I pulled my stereo today, thinking that, because there is no sound coming from any of my speakers, the problem would have to be something that would affect all of the speakers.

I figured since the stereo lights up, the problem would probably be the fuse on the back of the stereo.

I pulled the fuse. I put a tester on it to check for continuity.

The fuse is good.

The fuse in the glove box is good, I checked. If it was bad, the stereo would not light up. But I checked anyway.

Where do I look next?
Is there anything in the PDC that could affect the stereo?

There is no sound coming from any of the speakers, so whatever the problem is, it's affecting all of them.

I found that there is a 15 amp fuse in the PDC for the radio. In the glove compartment, there is a fuse for the radio, & a fuse for the subwoofer system.

All three of these are NOT blown.

Maybe the stereo is bad. It lights up, but just no sound.

Do you have a separate amp

Does it just light up or actually turn on so you can tune a station or play a cd?

What event or events were associated with when it stopped making sound

Try connecting a small speaker directly to a pair of speaker wires exiting the stereo

May have a blown amp

My amp is the one that came from the factory. I don't know where the amp is located, though.
I started hearing a crackling noise. Now, no sound at all.

Lol... ur stereo is fried... go get another one

EDIT... another possibility would be a shorted out speaker wire causing the unit to cut out.... You could disconnect all of them and hook up one speaker at a time...

But, there is no sound at all from any of my speakers. Could one shorted out speaker wire cause the other 3 speakers to not work?

In any case, I plan on pulling the stereo out this weekend & checking the wiring again.

Put a meter on each pair of speaker wires, it won't be 4 ohms exactly but close enough to tell if something is shorted out or not

Crutchfield has some really nice stereos, But, if the problem is a "wiring" problem, then, dropping a new stereo in won't solve the problem. (Unless the "wiring" problem is in the stereo's wiring.)
