Another Stupid Axle question

I am replacing my TJ front axle. My tag says 4.10 so I am assuming it is 4.10 gears. My question is I have found more that one axle for a good price that the tag says 4.11 Did they really make two deferent gears that close together? If so can I use a 4.11?? Seams to me they must be the same. But I am no expert. Thanks again for any input!

You can not mix your gears front and rear. Have to stay the same or youll be crunching parts. If your replacing the front then youll want to stay with the gears you have in the rear. You said you have 4.10s then stick with them if you dont plan on changing the gears on the rear also. Emjoy the swap. I desided to stick to my D30 and just upgrade the shafts

Pretty sure they put 4:10's in with 4:11's at the factory. No clue why....

Just went out and pulled the tags off. The front one First row 52099226AC, second row 4.10 610881-3

Rear tag first row 52111762AL second row 4.11 5993-5

Front axle trashed the inner pinion bearing. Actually looks like the rollers mist the heat treatment proses for the barring manufacture. They turned square instead of round. Looks like they were to soft.

Well all this begs the question of which to get. I found a salvage yard that has both a 4.11 and a 4.10 Since mine hat a 4.10 from the factory I would think it would work. But seems to me if I can get a 4.11 that matches up with the rear that would maybe be my better option?

Might want to open it and verify it really is a 4.10. Sometimes people change them.

X2 It will be fine. You only use 4WD offroad, correct?

Looks like I am set. Found a good 4.11 front TJ axle for $250. Also found a Dana 30 with 4.56s and an OX locker I am going to pick up to put on the shelf for future improvements, so to speak. The gie also has the matching Dana 44 rear with a Detroit locker. Trying to squeeze the extra $ out of the wife to get it!

Well for once I made out like a bandit! I went to get the front axle for $250, and for $500 more came home with the hole 97 Jeep. Got to love it! $750 for a 97 TJ that was never recked, and only has 117k on it. Looks like I will have plenty of spare parts for a while! Thanks to every one for all the help!
