Auto trans shifting

Hey guys ive noticed with my AT. Whenever i shift to reverse, drive and park that it clunks pretty bad. Could it be a bad transfer case? Any help would be great thanks

Most generally a clunking noise when chanting drive direction is a bad u joint, I would start with carefully looking at the u joints for sloppy before thinking it's internal

Do you know for sure that the clunking noise is coming from your transfer case? Because, it sounds to me like it could be your u-joint or the backlash in your rear diff.

Hope that helps.

My 98 has always done this, as well as my friends XJ. A lot of people on this forum have the same noise

Mine only does it when I'm parked on a hill and I've yet to have any issues with anything, I think it's just something that happens.
