Axle Track Width

I have a D44 rear and a D30 front, 2003 Sport.

Is the D44 a bit wider than the D30?

I have four matched rims and tires, all measurements are uniform per unit.

But when I measure the same spots on the front and rear tires the rear comes out being a half inch wider than the front. Is this due to the drum brakes on the rear, or is the D44 just a bit wider in stance than its weaker sibling the D30?

BTW, my toe-in is set to 1/8" narrower in front than the rear of my tires. Sound about right? The front measures from the point I chose on the tread as 73 7/8" front and 74" rear, while the rear axle is 74.5" front and rear.

They both should be 60.5" or very close to that end to end.

Check out the axle part of this page: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/st...1/#post4118396

Also, I wouldn't do alignment with tire tread. Tires are far from perfect and the tread likely isn't the same spacing on both sides. You are better off removing the wheels and clamping pieces of straight metal on there (I used 1" square aluminum), measure out the size of your tire on the piece of metal, and measure off that.
