Barely running at start in hot weather

Hi all, I apologize in advance if this topic is already out here, I haven't found quite my issue. My 2001 4.0 has had this issue twice - both times in 97 degree weather + where it's running fine till I park and go to restart it. On start, the engine is barely idling - 1000 or less RPMs (I think that's where it was.) I hit the gas and there's no rev response at all until time passes and or i keep pressing on the gas then it reluctantly reacts and gets to a normal idle. Then driving after this, it can be slow to respond to throttle or odd higher revs, then it starts running normal (so far) - it's throwing random misfire, and misfire on 1-3 codes - once with flashing check engine light. Thank you if you have any suggestions.

Your symptoms sound similar to an issue I was having. Take a look at this thread and see if you might be able to gain some insight into your problems.

Make sure you have the heat shield that goes between the exhaust manifold and the fuel rail. That part is $20 or less. I have had no heat soak issues in high temps, so far, with just the stock heat shield in place.

Other kits include the shield plus some additional thermal wraps for the injectors and fuel rail. Those are about $50-60.
