blinkers radio brake lights wipers not working

Hey All- New to the forum! Ive had a few wranglers over the years, got the itch again and recently made a purchase.

1998 Wrangler 2.5 L 5 speed. 90,000 miles.

Title says it all. The wipers, radio, brake lights, directionals are not working on this Wrangler. I tried the search and found a common issue was the ignition actuator switch and/or pin. I REPLACED BOTH but it did not resolve the issue.

A little more information, the headlights, wiper sprayer work fine. 3rd brake light does not work either. I checked all the applicable fuses but they all looked ok. I figured with all the problems it would be an issue prior to the fuse box. One thing I did notice is in the fuse box under the hood the 40A IOD fuse is not there, not sure if it should be or if this is unrelated? Jeep has AC.

Any help would be appreciate!! Thanks in advance!

Did you check the fuse box behind the glove box as well as the one under the hood

Assuming all wiring is OEM & nothing has been added:

If the washer pump works, it is not a bad fuse keeping the wipers from working since both are on the same fuse. That also rules out a bad ignition switch.

The brake lights are on a different circuit, fuse 2 in the fuse block behind the glove box. Check that fuse & if good you might have a bad brake switch at the brake pedal. You can unplug the connector at the switch & jump across the pink/dark blue (should have 12v from the fuse) & the white/tan wires. That should get you all 3 brake lights.

For the signals, make sure fuse 13 in the fuse block & fuse 9 in the PDC are good.

You can check the brown/white wire at the wiper motor to see if you get 12v there when the wiper switch is in the low speed position & the key is on. If yes, the motor is bad. If no, probably the switch is bad & can be further tested.

Be sure to test fuses with a meter or swap with known good ones for testing purposes.

The slot marked IOD is the empty slot used to put the actual IOD fuse into when removing it for long term storage.

Update- long construction season my Jeep has sat in the garage all summer! No progress until the last week.

I swapped the multifunction switch/ blinker switch and the brake lights, blinkers and hazards now work!

The wipers and radio are still not working unfortunately. My next move is to test the wiper motor, since the windshield washer sprayer still works. Does this sound right ?

Seems like all these issues are independent? Anyone have any thoughts on the radio? There is power to the fuse that’s as far as I got with that.

Any help is appreciated! TIA.

Good progress.

Check the 2 fuses for the radio. Fuse 15 in the fuse block (power when key is on) & fuse 17 in the PDC (power all the time).

For the wipers make sure the brown/white wire has 12v power when the key is on & the switch is in the low speed position. If good, then check the motor.

Wipers back in action! $40 on Amazon, was worth the wait over 140 from autozone.

Now to tackle the radio, then frame repair and I’m on the road 🙂
