blower inop

i have a 01 wrangler, this morning the blower quit no speeds worked. bought a blower put it in, and it didnt fit right but only one speed worked. tested the old blower out of vehicle, it works. put old one back in and it now works but only works on one speed that being 2. i was told when i bought the jeep the switch was replaced cause 1,2,3 speeds work but not 4. so should i assume its the resistor?

That sounds more like a fan switch problem or the wires connecting to it, since the only thing that changed between taking the old blower out (when no speeds worked) and putting it back in is that you jostled things around a bit and now speed 2 suddenly works.

When the resistor is shot no speeds except for 4 will work because it's a direct connection, bi-passing the resistor.

thanks for the reply. after looking at the resistor and learning they look nothing like the gm ones i decided to check the actual switch. after removing i found that the plastic around the terminals has a melted look to it. so since the dealer replaced this part back in the end of november i will bring it back to them.
