Body lift causes gas to overflow

Every since I put a 1.25" body lift on my 05 jeep tj I have had a problem at the pump filling up and overflowing. I've dealt with for awhile just filling up carefully. Well I filled up the other day. missed it. gas went all over my new fenders. (christmas) I know there is some kind of valve that shuts it off. Anyone else have this problem. How did you fix it?

Thanks guys!

Personally i dun think the body lift has anything to do with it lol. My 06 has poured out when it was stock height...and every other size. I just stand to the side a bit lol. Come to think of it though...my 01 never did that. Must be something with the later years of the TJ.

The problem is specific to the 05-06 TJ and Unlimited. The ethanol in gas swells the plastic in the inlet check valve and binds it. The "over flow" is actually splash-back from when the pump clicks off. Gas pours in at an angle and when is stops it sloshes back toward the filler. The ICV should stop the back splash.

The filler neck was narrowed significantly in 05. Previous models probably have the same ICV problem, but with wider filler necks the gas doesn't make it all the way up and out.

There was a NHTSA investigation that included '05 through new JKs. Chrysler got it to go away and averted a mass recall by extending the warranty on gas tanks on all JKs....left 05-06 owners up $#!t creek because the NHTSA considers the matter closed. The dealer fix is a $900 gas tank plus $300+ labor. Supposedly the ICV has newer plastic that's not as sensitive to ethanol, but the cost of a TJ gas tank went from <$200 to >$900....

Every business ethics class I've ever taken tells me there's shady BS in this whole issue...just try proving anything definitively...
