Broken alternator bracket and the eBay alternative replacement fix
Recently during an inspection for some battery related issues on my 2.5 cyl, I noticed my alternator bottom bracket along with the alternator arm have completely sheared off. It looks like it has been this away for awhile. Apparently, this is quite common on the TJs from what I've researched.
I found out that this OEM bracket is no longer available so the junkyard or eBay would be my only choice. I found a guy on eBay that fabricated this bracket out of billet aluminum for $50, which was the going rate for a used OEM bracket.
Once received, it looks to be well fabricated and much heavier than the cheap OEM potted metal. The holes were already threaded to reuse the OEM bolts. I did have to buy another bottom bolt which for reference, is a M10x1.5x55 grade 8 at home depot.
The new bracket does not use the rear bolt from the supporting bracket and really does not need it due to the superior strength of the new bracket. I had a spare alternator from a local Jeeper. Install was straightforward on the roomy 2.5cyl and result was very satisfactory.
