Cant get lifter back in engine

I am trying to replace my lifters, and let me tell you, this is one of the toughest things ive done on my jeep. timing chain was way easier, i would rather do my oil pan gasket than this again.

every single one of my lifters was gummed stuck. I got 4 out, replaced 3 of them. But the one closest to the firewall will not. go. back. in.

im really about to lose my gotdam mind here. How does this lifter get back into its home? Obviously I do not have the head off, this is a 2.5

Had a bitch getting that one in last year and I ditched the lifter tool and picked up a telescoping magnet, I also moved the large wiring connectors out of the way. Still took a bit of doing but eventually I was successful

I got 2 different magnets, one telescoping, one bendy arm. i also have moved the wiring connector. im now up to 5 hours on this one lifter. taking a ten minute break so i dont murder the next person i see.

the other ones went in with a rotaty move but this one will not. thinking of sanding the edge of the lifter. the bore is probably full of varnish.

Can you please describe exactly how you got yours in? I mean any specifics at all. There are literally no tips for this anywhere online.

The only specific thing I remember is that I had a small wooden dowl that I used to manipulate the lifter from the openings for cylinder #3.

First, be 100% sure you didn't already put the #3 lifter in the #4 hole already...

The FSM calls for lubricating the lifters with engine oil supplement. Did you do that?
