Caughing, Spitting and Choking

OK I have replaced all the electrical, ie, plugs, plug wires, dist. cap, rotor button. I still have this problem. not all the time, but at times when I start, the jeep will do the coughing stuff. If you let off the throttle and pump it a little it will gradually get better. after it gets over its mad spell, it will run ok. I have 200k on my jeep and this is driving me buggy. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump or the filter assemble. Any of Y'all got any ideals? New at this jeep think and now I am just replacing parts until it goes away. thanks Wayne

I'd clean the throttle body and IAC, as well as check the cat to see if it's coming apart and partially obstructing intermittently. I would also check, clean, and/or replace the o2 sensors as suggested.

Cycle the ignition or plug in an obd2 and check for codes too.

I'm assuming from the profile (and the distributor/wires comment) it's the '97 SE.

97 2.5 4 banger. I have not checked for codes yet. I have cleaned the t/b, it was covered in black oiley crap. I am pretty sure the pcv valve is junk. got another and a new grommet, but have not installed yet. putting shocks on right now and having to wait on shock tower bushings. you would think they would come with new shocks, but no, they make you buy them extra. y'all have a great day. its Sunday and the first day of spring. yahoo!!!!!!!!
