Center console lock question

I bought an 01 TJ about a month ago and it came with a busted lock in the center console. Does anyone make easy replacements for the lock in the consoles? I dont mind if I have to carry another key around.

Thanks!

I am hoping I can just find a new aftermarket deal somewhere that just installs to the existing slot!

I've never tried this myself, but I've had numerous people tell me the stock lock in the stock center console is very, very easy to pry open with a screwdriver. Like so easy that it is a false sense of security.

Based on that, if you really want to secure anything in there then I suggest you upgrade to the Tuffy security console insert. From the outside, it'll still look perfectly stock. However, it will be a substantial security upgrade over stock.

Just an idea.

Does seem like a very good idea. However, I have full doors and a hard top most of the time (until I can afford a rampage soft top ), However, I do like the way those tuffy boxes look!

Does it look something like this?

Check your local ACE Hardware or hardware stores, I bought a replacement for my console with 2 keys for like 3.99.
Some call it a cabinet lock it come in various lengths and with diffrent shaped and length lock bars.
A phillips screw holds the flat lock bar on, then you unscrew the nut to remove it, take it with you when you go, to match up the length of the lock and bar.

Quadratec sells an OEM replacement, you could buy it then take it to a locksmith and have it keyed for your Jeep key then there would be no extra keys

Quadratec console lock

My center Console just isn't keyed to my keys...I wonder if a locksmith could just cut me a key to match it.

Someone broke into my console. They unzipped the soft top and broke my lock to get to my gps. However True Value sells mailbox locks that you can replace the lock with. They have a nut on the back to tighten it down and hold it in place

How did you install it? Just pry the market lock off and squeeze the mailbox lock in?

When you open the lid to your center console, you will see a torx screw in the bottom of the locking mechanism. Unscrew this torx screw, using cuation NOT to lose it, (slippery little sucker) then the lock shroud will come off. You can then lift the lock unit from the top side of the center console cover.
