Check Engine - 02 Sensor

So my check engine light won't go away and poor 10 year old Randy won't be able to pass inspection today.

Check Engine Code said that my 02 was not working properly (Bank 2 Sensor 1) So, I bought a new 02 sensor, put it in correctly (I quadruple checked) and I made it home without the light coming on.

I started to believe in miracles. That is, until the next morning the light came back on. So, I did some research and someone suggested that I try a new gas cap.

Bought a new gas cap and the check engine light WAS GONE. I drove to work- still gone! It wasn't until on my way home from work that that damn check engine light came back on.

So the gas cap solution lasted about 25 miles and now I'm stuck and don't know how to fix it -- and neither does my mechanic.

Any ideas???

Interesting that it didn't come up as an evapo leak. Glad it's fixed though!

A CEL light that indicates a bad 02 sensor can't be relied on to be accurate 100% of the time. My 02 sensor related CEL eventually proved to be from a bad pre-catalytic converter. Replacing them permanently cured my CEL light. The pre-cat that had gone bad eventually dumped its insides down into the main catalytic converter which clogged it so badly my max highway speed became 5-10 mph. I had to drive 25-30 miles like that on the shoulder of the highway to get to a friend's house to replace all three cats.
