Hey, I have a 1998 wrangler with a (soon to be) broken clutch. I figured I would start cheap and change out the gear oil and did help. It wouldn’t go in 1st or 2nd gear with the jeep running. Turn it off and will go in gear. This (so,I thought) is a fluid problem but the reservoir is full and lines are fine. Maybe it's not the clutch. Please help me out. If it is the clutch, what kinds have you guys put in? Did you go with an organic/ceramic/kevlar… Thanks guys!

It sounds like the clutch, while running the flywheel is constantly spinning so if the clutch cant disengage, you cant put it in gear from neutral. But when the engine is off, the flywheel is not spinning which equals no torque on clutch and tranny which means you can put it in gear. You may want to also check the slave cylinder on the tranny, if it is broken then the clutch wont disengage. Im not sure if the clutch master cylinder is internal or external on the ax-15, but it is another culprit. You can search for the checking the slave cylinder and its pretty easy to check and see if it is functioning properly so you can rule it out.

As for replacement clutches, I did a bunch of looking awhile back and looked at getting an expensive upgrade, but IIRC the concensus was to just go with oem.
