So when I remove my doors, I tried pulling the fuse in the #4 slot behind the glovebox. Being that this is the fuse that should disable the dome lights while the doors are off. Nope, they stayed on and I didn't notice it do anything. So I go to the fuse box under the hood and I think it was #26 that I pulled; the accessory fuse. That did the trick BUT, that also gave me issues where my fuel gauge wasn't working properly and my rearview mirror temp./direction gauge wasn't on. Then I would also get the message displayed in the odometer area stating that the fuse was missing.

Is there some reason why my #4 fuse didn't do the trick as I have read it should? I really don't care to pull that accessory fuse again and had wanted to use this method instead of buying the springs that keep the door plunger from activating the lights. Any help would be great.

You can take the button that triggers the lights to go off out. I can just get mine out by hand but you might have have to use a flat head screw driver or something to pop the out at first. Then you can just simply unplug the wire and you don't have to worry about taking fuses out. Then when you put the doors back on, pop the button out again, connect the wire and they will come on again.

Fuse #4 should disable BOTH the lights and door chime. Double check your dimmer switch making sure it is not turned to max. Try probing the fuse #4 slot terminals with a test light/voltmeter to make sure there is not 12V on both terminals.

Make sure you allow the lights time to turn off after pulling the fuse. I thought pulling fuse #4 was not working for mine either but they will not cutout right away after pulling the fuse, they will fade out.

I think I'll test the fuse slot first as mentioned to see what I get.

Now this I will have to check as I figured they would just black out right away after the fuse was pulled! You may be on to something here.

At least in my 04, the lights still come on when you shut the jeep off. but without the fuse they do not go on and off with the doors.

X2 on checking your dimmer switch.

I went with the switch from quadretec to shut off the interrior lights. I figured I would keep loosing the spring clips and it's nice and easy to just lean over and flip the switch to kill the lights

This was it!! Went home last night and pulled the #4 fuse, waited and sure enough they slowly dimmed out. Appreciate the help, was expecting them to just go out right when the fuse was pulled, but not the case.

also, each time you turn off the jeep, the light will come on, then dim out again, so expect that.

Never understood why they did not make the light switch turn to the right to shut off overhead lights like other cars. If you turn to left the switch clicks to keep lights on. It would have been a simple easy fix...
