Door screws

I can't seem to keep from ripping the door straps on my LJ, and unfortunately the last time I replaced a strap I also lost one of the screws in the door.

I've struggled to find an adequate replacement. The screws are oddly shaped (triangular-ish). Anyone have any suggestions? So far I've tried 8-32s which are a little too loose, and 10-24 which is a little too large, and none of the metric sizes seem to be useful.

I had this happen to me on my jeep. When the strap pulled out the screw it widened the hole and the screw would not stay in. I put a zip tie in the hole and then the screw. The screw will thread into the nylon and will stay put. Almost like putting an anchor in drywall. Once done trim the exposed piece of zip tie flush with head of screw. This has held for me for over a year.

I ordered the screw from my Jeep dealer. As I recall, not that expensive (in line with potential replacements from hardware store) and I have the correct screw. When I took off the door panel, I realized the metal clip that received the screw was missing as well. Again, the dealership was able to order the correct replacement. I looked long and hard at the various sites on the web for the part, but had no luck finding a replacement. Same with the plastic fasteners that attached the door panel because those get ruined taking the panel off. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses. May experiment with Loctite too.
