Fan only has one speed..

So my heater/AC fan only works on the third notch up (second from highest speed). Otherwise it doesn't work at all. Do I just need a new switch, and if so, how hard is it to put in? Do I have to pull the dash, or does that part come off? Thanks guys.

Electrically speaking, I'd say you need a switch. On the subject of removing it I really can't help as I have never had to do it.

You might want to look into the blower resistor. It controls voltage for each of the blowers settings.

I replaced my resistor about 2 1/2 years ago and it works fine. It's under the dash below the glove box and takes some flexibility and working to replace, but it's simple.

Usually the blower resistor problem makes the blower only work on high speed I think... I'd check the switch too just in case.

Hey brother.

Read here....

https://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/heat-and-air-50517.html

Speed's 1,2,and 3 out = blower resistor out.

As the resistor fails, you may lose all speeds at once or lose them one at a time. Annoying, but easy to cure.

The only thing is... if max speed doesn't work, I would personally suspect the switch more because I was under the impression the resistor is bypassed on max speed.

Now if 2nd to last and max speed BOTH work...then I'd lean toward the resistor being bad with the possibility of the switch being bad...

Yea, s3nt3nc3d I think is right. The blower resistor restricts the electricity (without getting technical) that the blower is outputting. When the resistor fails, the electricity flows to max capacity (HIGH) so if it's only working on HIGH then the BR should be swapped. If it's not the MAX speed, then I would more suspect the switch being bad. And as s3nt3nc3d said, if it's two speeds working, I'd look more towards the switch but it could still be a blower resistor. The blower resistor is about a $40 part.

to remove the switch, you can look for some of the detailed writeups here (probably stickys) about removing or replacing the stereo. The procedure is pretty much the same.
