Gear Shifter knob

I have an 02 TJ and would like to change the shifter knob. The problem is I can not get the old one off. I have tried turning it as well as prying off the shift pattern that I thought was just a cap with maybe a bolt underneath it or something... Well apparently not since it won't pry off. Any help or suggestions?
Thanks

Pry the shift pattern up there's a nut under it... you usually tear the knob up getting the shift pattern out

There is a small notch on the passenger side of the shift knob insert that is there to get a small tool started. Try warming the knob with a heat gun or blow dryer to make it a little more plyable...they tend to get hard after a few years.

X2 on the heat gun otherwise you will likely damage the lip on the top of the knob that holds the metal shift pattern disc
