gearing question

so starting my build 2002 TJ 4.0l with auto
so picking up a 8.8 for the rear and this jeep will be a mild wheeler and on road
looking at a ARB or OX with elec solenoid and looking to run 33's for now with a possibility of 35's down the road so question is with 33's and a auto do you think 456 gears would be to much , not a daily driver but will be drivin to the beach at time 3hr road trips

thanks

3 speed auto or 4 speed? The optimal gearing is not the same for both.

Skip the fat heavy 8.8 and look at the Super 35 kit. Your current D35 already fits correctly and the Super 35 will safely run 35" tires.
SlingerAU and 12b like this.

Your 02 came with a 3-speed automatic. 4.56 is ideal for 35's, 4.10 is ideal for 33's. Figure out the size tire you'll be staying with and go for that axle ratio.
