going down

Tom the new guy here with my new to me 2005,
I bought it with a 3" suspension lift and 2"body spacers. I am planning to take the spacers out and lower it a little and find some smaller tires & wheels. After inspecting things I noticed on the steering shaft below the knuckle there is a bearing in a frame looking piece of metal with a 1" square piece of stock holding it up as if it is a spacer, is this for the body lift and if so when I take the body spacers out can I / should take that spacer out from the steering knuckle support also?

I've seen some body lifts come with brackets for the steering, so that's probably what it is.

I'd look at some of the instructions for a body lift and see what modifications are needed to install it, then go in reverse. Odds are, the transfer case shift linkage has been adjusted or modified and possibly the radiator fan shroud moved up, or the radiator itself could be blocked up a little. The fuel filler tube also may have been moved or extended.
