When you replaced the fuel pump, did you also replace the fuel pressure regulator that sits on top of the fuel pump? A leaky FPR is the most common cause of the symptom you're having.

After the 1st time you start it does it take a while to start again or does it fire right up?

it was included in the pump. i put a fuel rail gauge on it and the fuel pressure bleeds off almost immediatly when i turn it off. i think i may have a bad fuel pump. facepalm. and banghead.

I would definitely suspect the FPR as the source of that problem before I'd think of the fuel pump.
