Headlight plug wiring problem

I am getting ready to replace stock sealed beams with HELLA Vision Plus. I noticed the wiring is odd on the passenger side as shown by pics. I don’t understand what the function of the band wrapping is for or why the pass. Side shows exposed wires. I guess I will individually tape each wire with electrical tape for a quick easy fix after unplugging old headlight to replace. Anyone have any experience/ideas?

Looks like someone tried to unplug it by pulling on the harness instead of the plug. Make sure all those connections are clean and tight, then tape away.

I'd replace those headlight plugs with something with larger wire as taping those wires will not last. If you ever want to upgrade the whole headlight harness you'll have the heavier plugs in place to use. I went with these BEST QUALITY H4 / 9003 High Temperature Headlight Socket / Plug / Connector. We Welcome Custom Orders! All of our Head Light Sockets / Plugs / Connectors are made with USA Wire! - Innova Design & Dist. Inc. (909) 971-0000 when I upgraded my harness. Much better than the oem plugs.
