i killed my 2.5

i would like to replace my 2.5 engine and would like to put a 4.0 in what mods need to be done first? i was told i only need to update computer.

what year is your tj.the 2.5 4 bangers have the weak ax5 trannys,this will be the time to up grade to the ax15 the only decent 5spd used till 1999.in 2000 they switched to the less desirable np3550,in 2005 the switched to a very desirable 6speed made by mercedes benz it has a 4:46 1st gearneo

gas wise, the 2.5 on my 2001 tj sounded like a good idea at the time

You would come out cheaper going with a 350 short block than a straight six... it's pretty much the same mod you would need to do, computer wise, and the gas mileage is around the same depending on the tires you are turning... i had a 350 in my last jeep, i went from a 4 banger to the 350 and i cost me $3800 for EVERYTHING... Well worth the price but ended up selling it.. I got a straight six in mine now but when/if i ever blow it I will definently go back with a 350!!!
