Identifying Problem w/ Trans vs Transfer Case
Hi All - Looking for a little tech help on my 2000 Wrangler Sport.
There seems to be a rattle/loose marble sound coming from under my Jeep and I'm having trouble identifying the issue. I've taken it to a couple shops and one would like to replace the clutch as a starting point and the other shop (AAMCO) would like to pull out the transmission.
To elaborate... At all speeds (not idle), whether in gear, coasting in neutral, clutch in or out...the Jeep is making a metal on metal rattle noise from somewhere under the front end of the Jeep. I have some aggressive AT tires on the Jeep and can't hear it at highway speeds. At first I thought it was a hub issue but checked the tires to see if there was any play and didn't notice anything. I have a hard time believing it's a trans issue because I'm not having any shifting problems.
I'm also noticing a rattle when I shut down the Jeep w/ the clutch out. This seems to be a clutch issue and I'm not sure if this is directly correlated w/ the above mentioned sounds while in motion.
Anyone else have similar problems in the past? I'd appreciate any trouble shooting tips you guys could give me.
