Jumps and skips

2004 Wrangler TJ 4.0 inline six 96,000 miles. It seems that sometimes when in heavy traffic and setting when I go to take off it skips and jumps and acts like it will stall. All other times will not happen and runs fine. Any ideas? Thanks

Is it almost like shuddering when you press the gas?

If it's an auto, could be something going on with the torque converter.

I'd say sensors. Like Cps. But I'm ignorant. I'd PM Jerry if I had an auto. Lol.

It has only happen once to me but the wife says she will come off the gas (as it seems it will die) and try again and it will eventually catch up and go.

Are you getting any Check Engine lights? Has your mpg taken a nosedive lately? Your symptom is kinda making me think maybe one of the upstream 02 sensors might be going bad which would screw up the engine's air/fuel ratio.

Also, have you checked your auto transmission's fluid level? Do that just to verify it isn't low and/or that the ATF doesn't look or smell burnt. Check the ATF level with the engine running and fully warmed up, after shifting through all the gears first. Make sure the engine is running when you do this.

Hi Jerry, No check engine lights, all is normal. I think MPG is as always but will check it. Trans oil was checked at the dealer a few thousand miles ago, but they are worthless so I will check again. Doing some detailing and new bumpers this weekend, may be first of the week. Glad to have you on board, you come highly recommended, thanks.
