Key

Related to my other post maybe, but... Is this a normal shape for a Jeep key? I've never seen one this simple since my filed down key for my 64 Malibu. Even the guy that cut me a spare commented on it.

Is that the one for the ignition? I know there is a second key that will open the center console that has less tumbler grooves. If its for the ignition, it looks quite worn to me too.

It's the only one I have/received from the dealership. The center console won't unlock with this. Sucks to just have to jerk it open. That can't last.

Ouch! If you have small fingers, you can slide your finger right around the latching mechanism and it will pop open.

Maybe checking with the dealership you could get you a couple new keys? Might cost though. Another option maybe is if you have "key replacement" on your insurance, they may be able to produce new keys for you. Worth checking into.

I have the same key for my 2005. I think the key had just worn down with use over time. I got one that looked like that from the dealer, and another that was in much better condition. I shelved the worn one and just made copies of the better - looking key.

That's good info. Thanks! I am going to look into getting the original key. This one comes out in any position, running or not, makes no difference. It lead to quite a few dead batteries from pulling it out on Accessory.

Thanks again
