Hi, I'm new to the whole forum thing but I just bought a 2005 wrangler x with hard top, has rear wiper, defrost but no way on dash to activate them. Is the Mopar hardtop wiring kit what I would need also? Is it normal for jeeps to come with equipment with no way to operate it or was it more likely hard top added later. Thanks

The center pannel should have 4 switch positions with switches or plugs

One is for lock rocker on rubicon only
One is for auto overdrive control
One Is for rear washer of you have a hard top
One is for rear defroster

So an auto rubi with hardtop from factory has all 4
A manual factory soft top has none

An auto factory soft top has one

The kit is all you need if you have the newer style hardtop with no side vents but if you have early tj hardtop with side vents installed on a 2003 you also need to make or buy a adapter to fit newer style kit harness plug to older hardtop harness plug

If the Jeep was a softop model, it will not have any of the controls or wires. The top was added. Factory tops have both wiper and defrost. Off hand I have not seen any aftermarket tops that have just a wiper. I have seen just defrost. If the rear glass broke with the previous owner, he could have replaced it with non heated glass.

Take a picture of the plug on the top

I also have a 04 with a add on hard top. Would like to hook up the defroster and wiper. I know I have to get a wire harnes , but is there a place to plug it in behind the rocker switch panel. Right now there are no switches.

Probably is the center has spots for 4 switches

2 only used with hard top
Wiper/washer
Defog

1 only used with Rubi to control the locking axles

1 only used with auto mic tranny for overdrive lockout

Thanks, but I was asking if there is a place to hook the harness to the switches, and than the harness to a power source. Or is there factory plugs for power ready to go behind the switch panel. I did notice that there is spots in the fuse box for these attachments, but of course no fuses.

There may be a harness behind the switch Manuel cover.

Fuses?

The defogger has a spot for a relay in the under hood box.

The wiper tied to a spot in the fuse box behind the glovebox in the Jeep hard top harness kits I used

Other wires are typically not there including defogger wire that goes to plug leading to cluster where the timer is integrated
