Manual/Auto Conversion

Hey guys,

I am currently running 6speed on my 98 TJ. Looking to convert it into an Automatic when the transmission died. I have about 105K on my manual trans, so i don't know how long it will last? How expensive is it? I am in Garden Grove, California. Where is the best shop I can get it done? and Where to purchase a good used transmission? And HOW MUCH? Thanks for all inputs.

Do you currently have an aftermarket tranny with a 6spd? If its the stock tranny you should have an AX-15 5spd. How long it will last is an unknown factor. Check out car-parts.com for avg tranny costs in your area. Then call some shops and talk to them about the swap and costs.

Tranny conversions are usually not very cheap unless, you have a spare trans laying around and do the work yourself. Even then depending on the parts needed it could get spendy. I agree with 4jeepn to check on the prices in your area and to call the shops for an install price. You might be able to find someone parting out a Wrangler with an automatic on craigslist.com also.

I would defer to Jerry Bransford on this board for the best place to have something of this nature done in SoCal. He lives over there and knows the right people.
