Name that tune

After about 15 minutes (or so) of driving (usually after highway speeds) my ‘06 4.0 auto has been making a high-pitch, fluttering squeak/squeal while moving. It stops once I get below 10 mph. No noise if I rev it in neutral, but it has two pitches when moving—higher if I am on the throttle, slightly lower when I let off (regardless of road speed).

Doesn’t sound like any videos I’ve checked for OPDA. Didn’t see any obvious play in the u-joints. Sounds more metallic than a belt squeak, but...?

Any ideas from the pros?

Could be the u joints in the drive shaft... (angry sparrows)
Try removing the front shat and drive to see if the noise is still there, then do the rear and drive in 4WD

I would be concerned about your CV joint if it's chirping. Disconnect your front shaft at the diff and tie it up out of the way, don't need to pull all the way off just yet. Drive around and see if the noise is still there.

Thanks for the responses. Been a little tied-up time- and tool-wise, since we are a few days away from listing our house...

Sound comes back with either driveshaft removed. Sounds like it is coming from the transfer case. Crap.

Hafta drop it off at the garage. Not something I can tear into at the moment.

A seal in the transfer case oil pump gave up and one of the bearings were starting to go...

All good now.
