Great read, thanks for all the updates and keeping us posted! Especially glad it finally seems to be running well and all the grief is behind you.

First new is not rebuilt so comparing apples and oranges

Next warranty covers what it says it covers not what you think it should cover so perhaps unable to read instead of irate

Third if there is a problem you expect many to show up quite early which is normal

Rebuilds or sometimes problematic but they are not new engines

How much is a rebuilt ATK engine? $1500?

Would you expect it to fail after 10 miles? 500 miles? When would be acceptable for it to fail?

wasnt trying to start any problems here, was just passing info along. I usually dont post and just use all forums for mostly research, but I thought some might be interested in the atk experience.

Im not upset at all about having to do it twice, it only cost me time, and about 200 dollars(new opda because I was afraid to use the one that was in the engine when it failed, oil, antifreeze). Im happy that they owned up to the initial failure that was obviously their fault and inherent quality issue. The second engine having a leak and no sealant on the head bolt is in my opinion unacceptable.

I also agree that with a rebuild problems will usually materialize quite quickly.

A rebuild SHOULD be just as dependable as new stock, at the very least.......and at the best it WILL definately be better (forged pistons, billet rods, gears etc, better higher copper bearings...etc etc)

Now maybe they skipped a quality control step, or maybe reused a connecting rod bolt, which is what I believe happened, or mismatched caps, etc etc.....and while I understand it happens they owned up to it. Great customer service on this case, every person I talked to in the company was great.

The no sealer on a head bolt that requires it is bu!!sh!t

Already had my turn

ATK was pretty good with the Warrenty on my Jeep the only thing is that the first motor was in and out (Mostly in) the shop for two years. When they finally replaced the motor it had been two years. The second motor ran just over a year or just under 3000 miles (Im retired and handicapped so I dont drive much) and it started clicking here this week. I found out that I have lost a piston. Guess what my three year Warranty started with the first piece of junk they sold me so my Warranty had expired. Less than 3000 miles on two engines, got to be a record. Though from what Ive read about ATK probably not. I bought my Engine from Gearhead Engines & More and they lead you to believe your buying one of their motors and then an ATK motor shows up. I hope you the best of luck, as for me Im trying to decide what motor to purchase and from who for the second time at another cost.

Sorry to hear. My second ATK is over 20k miles now and no issues. If I had it to do over again I would have just bought a Golen....but for a replacement for a high mile or budget fix I’d go with car-parts.com to find a takeout or Daveys if you aren’t far. Good luck!

Good updates all .

As another member mentioned, just buy a cheap Grand Cherokee and swap the 4.0 out of it. Part out/scrap the rest and might cost you nothing but time.
