Hi all,

2005 tj wrangler X 4.0 manual

145,000 miles. Owner #6.

black "dumb" key

I've had it for 4 years, only major items were water pump and seized starter about 2 years ago, both replaced myself as I prefer the DIY approach.

I now have a no crank/ no start issue that creeped up recently. I've done all I know and now I cannot get it going.

So here is the history on this new issue.

4 weeks ago after going to an appt. across town, it will not start. After checking all fuses and relays in the parking lot, I had to get it towed to a shop. I was all dressed up and did not get under it to look at starter/solenoid.

Shop calls me n ext day that it is fixed, YAY. They said it was a broken/corroded signal wire.

It has worked for past few weeks until 3 days ago, no start but at least this time at home in the driveway.

I disconnect the battery, get under it to check the wires. The sensor wire came off the tab. I pinched the connector so it fits snugger and it is back working perfect. Nice 5 minute fix.

Today it won't start again, key all the way turned and no crank. I get under it all the wires look ok.

I check the neutral safety switch (which I have jumped for remote start) and it is ok.

I get the multi-meter out, here are the readings:

Battery at terminals 11 volts (low, it is 4 years old)

Live wire post at starter and starter body, same 11 volts

Sensor wire and starter body with my mom turning the key to crank, same 11 volts.

At this point I get a screw driver and attempt to jump the started manually across the live post and the sensor post, key in ignition turned to just before crank position. Once I jump with the screw driver I hear the solenoid engaging pushing out the gear and the starter cranking the engine over. But it will not start.

I just got back from auto zone with a new battery, installed but issue still the same.

I tried the remote start to see if maybe the ignition actuator pin broke, but same result.

So, now that hopefully you've read the wall of text you can tell me what to try next!

:atomic:
Thanks
