I bought a used jeep and the previous owner gave me a cheap set of fog lights that he never installed.

Today I'm trying to install them and I'm lost. I've been searching for the past 2 hours online but can't seem to find an answer. The kit came with shit instructions, that don't match the included wiring harness. Everything I'm finding online mentions a relay, even the instructions mention a relay, but there is no relay. I'm assuming I have to go through the firewall to connect it to the rocker switch but I can't find much information on that as well.

I'm lost.

Here is the kit along with the instructions.

A lot depends on the wattage of the lights, the amperage rating of the switch, and the size of the wire. Give us those three things and we can help.

The lights are 12V 55W, the wire is 10G, and the only info I can find on the switch is that it's 12V. It's one of those OEM look-alike switches from GD Dist. usually sold on eBay or Amazon I think.

Personally, I would buy a 30 amp relay and wire it like the picture below. The green wire, brown wire, white wire, and black wire can all be small gauge (18 gauge is fine). Use your bigger wire as the yellow and red, and the grounds from the lamps.

Ok. Thanks. Any easy spots to get through the firewall? I want the switch near the ashtray.

Near the steering column there is a gromet where wiring already goes through. Push it aside a little and fish the wire through.

Where factory fog light relay is depends on year early year tj has two fog light relays inside jeep behind glove box above group of fuses

One relay turns fog lights off with high beam other routes battery current to fog lights when rocker switch near ash tray is turned on

Newer years wit pull out fog light switch on same stalk as headlight switch use one relay under hood

When wiring new relay first decide if you want
Independent for lights that can be left on without key
Or
Independent fog lights that require key on to be on
Or for lights that only come on if headlights on
Or
Fog lights that only come with park or headlights
Or fog lights that only come on with low beams

Some setups less Likely to run down battery as your lights on warning chime reminds you

If you draw relay magnet power from a circuit that is the one you want to control when fog lights are available and run relay magnet ground thru your rocker switch you can choose any of these options
