Oil Leak info for everyone

My Jeep has been at the dealer for most of the week, they are repairing it before swapping for my new truck. I thought I would share with the group what is going on as explained to me by the service department. Daimler-Chrysler has a TSB out on the rear main seal issue. with the 6-speed manual, the bell housing was redesigned which allows road dirt and up north, salty road water, into the bell housing which corroded out the rear main seal. I guess the "fix" is to goop up the holes. My issue with this is that there is a lot more whirring around inside that bell housing than a rear main, so I wonder just how much the corrosion issue has affected the clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing?? There was nothing said about the hung front brake calipers yet, or the transfer case issues. I doubt there will be at this time. I thought you all might benefit from the info, at least a little.

In any event, I am headed out to the dealer in a few hours to do the swap. I decided on a Ram 1500 instead of the Dakota.

The next chapter

The new truck is coming from out of state so I took the newly repaired Jeep back temporarily on Friday afternoon. I got all of about 7 miles before the rear main let go in a big way. I feel sorry for the people that were behind me on the highway as their windshields got oiled in a big way. Made it 7 miles back to the dealer with things getting worse. dropped what had to be the last of the oil in the motor in the dealer's driveway and lot. The back window and tire cover were covered with oil as well.

Went inside and had a meltdown in the showroom in spite of my best efforts not to. So now I have a loaner car.................... Did not hear from the dealer for the rest of the weekend, today should be interesting.

Lemon law in PA only applies to new vehicles by the way.
