OPDA replace

I have an 06 LJ with 41k miles. 8th VIN code S but built outside of "known" OPDA failure window (Aug 2005). I checked my factory OPDA and found no wear. Should I still replace it given the common failure hype?

The way I see it is, why not? 200 dollars for a crown unit is cheap insurance for your engine.....why take chances for 200 dollars. plus you'll have a good trail spare if yours is good now.

Thats what I did anyways......

Dave.

Did mine yesterday. Honestly, one of the most over-hyped discussions out there. The Chrystler unit was a poor design. Lots of threads on this and youtube videos make it seem a lot more complicated than it really is.

$110 from Quadratec for the Crown unit shipped. Keep your Chrysler sensor (when you swap out the OPDA, don't even disconnect the connector, just remove the one bolt and move the sensor off to the side).

Yes I replaced mine at 87000. Did the crown but the price was a little higher than you quoted plus shipping, had to convert the harness to work, not a big deal few wires. And a tool to properly install it into the cam shaft. Just changed the alternator last week.

I did the Crown OPDA as a preventative step at ~ 137k miles and reused my factory sensor on the Crown unit. Super simple and no special tools needed for install.
