Well shes at it again, I was gonna have the pcm programmed but it wont accept anything or respond. Im being told it should be replaced. Wheres the best place to get them? DEALER WANTS 460.00 BUT ONLY HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. I know dealer is best place for electrical stuff but even theirs is refurbished

So after talking to each of the auto parts stores they all said it would take a week to get in and thay all said it woulld be coming from phillidelphia, must be the same source. Ive read buying online is hit or miss, i was really hoping to spend the cash on a tire carrier. :-(

What are symptoms leading you to a PCM?

I tried an aftermarket PCM recommended on here a couple years ago. It lasted about 3 weeks before having the same issues. Bought the next one from the dealer and haven't had any issues. Would have been cheaper for me to go directly to the dealer in the first place.

Im getting random codes sometimes says misfire in a cylinder then it says tps is bad then it switched to cps sensor so my bro in law hooked up his code reader and it showed their was a program update from dealer that had something to do with cps sensor readings.So he recommended we do update as step 1, it wouldnt respond to programming so replacement was recommended. I need to smog it this year and it wont pass with check engine light on. Sometimes i also get a random loss of power when driving, only lasts a few secounds

yeah I was quoted a week too however after waiting 2 weeks the parts store called Cardone and they said they had no time frame for actually getting one to me..so I got a refund.

my advice before you order from anyone is to ask do they REALLY have one...and by have one I mean actually able to lay hands on it.

First insure problem is PCM

With your 97 my first guess is valve springs

But for early years all you gotta do is get a cheep one for 40 bucks of same year and engine XJ for a test

Tons of xjs at you pull it

If you have a 5 SPd only issue will be check engine light and if you have an auto that plus no torque converter lock up

The check engine light is because no TCM and XJ auto PCM expects to see TCM on harness

I drove my 98 California spec 4.0 5spd with an XJ 4.0 auto PCM and ran fine

If you buy a TJ PCM make sure same year same tranny and same California vs federal emissions as they are different

The XJ PCM is just a cheep way to make sure issue is PCM before you Spend big bucks on a tj PCM

Has anyone heard good things about Cardones pcm from partsgeek? I tried a search and didnt find much.

doesn't matter who you buy from Autozone, Partsgeek etc.....they all get them from Cardone....if you are insistent about buying from one of them make sure they REALLY have it

U didnt mention it was from partsgeek, or if their product worked. Ive bought from dealers b4 who had products in stock that the manafacturer or other sellers did not. RELAX! Settledown! Lol
