Please I need Transmission Help with my 2000 Wrangler 4.0L

I need some help and quick. I was in a roll over accident about two weeks ago and totaled our car. We have a rental but the insurance company is making us give it back here in a couple of days. Luckily I have my Jeep, however I am having transmissions problems. I am in our great United States Air Force, and after having just had our second baby boy, paying $2500 to fix the car I just wrecked, and paying my insurance deductible, I am strapped for money and can't afford to take it to a mechanic. I need to replace my clutch/slave cylinder assembly and am waiting for it to arrive by UPS. But that is not the problem. When the clutch went out the transmission became stuck in first gear. In the process of trying to get it out of first gear the floor shifter came out but the transmission stayed in first gear. So I then got the vehicle on a lift and got it into neutral by messing with the gears. So that made me happy. But the mechanics at the Air Force base's auto lobby shop said that I need to drop the transmission and replace some rod that connects the shifter to the clutch because when the moved the shifter in and out of gears it didn't appear to affect the clutch at all. At least that is how I understood it. But I have to take it to a transmission mechanic and pay them to do it because the mechanics at the shop don't know how. They said they could help me drop the trasnmission to save money there. but when they said they didn't know much about transmissions that made me wonder if I need to even go through the trouble of doing all that work. I brought up the point to the mechanics that won't that problem be fixed when I install the new slave and master cylinder. They said no. But I am not sure how much I trust them with their diagnosis. Could someone help me? If you need more info or better detail on my problem I can provide it, just let me know. Thanks

what... in your 2000 you have a nv3550 trans. it has a direct link between the shifter and the trans. there are no cables/rods or anything else in the shifter linkage. the shifter has absolutely nothing to do with the clutch, come to think of it the shifter has nothing to do with the clutch on any car. i say replace the slave and see if that fixes it. if the slave is bad then the clutch disc isnt disengaging so you cant correctly change gears when the motor is running.

I'm in the process of dropping mine now. My problem seems to be similar to yours. Its either destroyed the throw out bearing, possibly the clutch forks, my thought so far. Their are two male star bolts at the top of the transmission housing that I can't find a socket for, but my slave cyclinder is fine. Goodluck hopefully its something minor..any helps appreciated
